The classroom course is designed for those whose function on board is to monitor, supervise, plan or conduct Hot Works. The course shall have a best result if conducted together with practical fire fighting training course.
The learning objectives are: to understand that the correct approach to hot work is an important part of the safety culture on board ship; to see that major safety legislation and industry standard guidelines recognize hot work as a significant area of risk; to understand the relationship between hot work and risk management; to appreciate that preparatory steps must be taken before any hot work task is commenced; to review the general preparations for hot work on board to examine hot work procedures applicable to all types of vessel; to examine the increased risks and operational limitations associated with hot work on tankers; to review additional hot work requirements specific to tankers; to overview the basic safety precautions associated with hot work equipment and associated safety equipment; to review guidance for ensuring that hot work carried out by contractors meets required safety and performance standards; to examine how requirements will change when repair work is performed at a repair facility.
